Beauty and the Beast

I'm currently watching the new Beauty and the Beast show from CW (on cwtv.com)

Less than 10 minutes in, I have an issue:

That is our beauty and our beast. Now, I'm not going to argue that Kristen Kreuk isn't pretty - she is. What I want to know is why a scar makes a guy a beast. He's kinda gorgeous, with or without the scar.

Let's flash back a bit to the previous Beauty and the Beast tv show:

Again, Linda Hamilton is a beautiful woman, and the Beast? ACTUALLY A BEAST!
